Vintage Jazz Concert with a Staged Reading

Anita Hill is about to throw a dinner party for the social leaders of Hyde Park's African American community. She worries about whether her elegant black cocktail dress, newly decorated home, gourmet dinner and carefully selected wait staff will meet with the approval of her guests, the South Side's arbiters of good taste. Her husband Dave, however, is thinking about other things—his cardiologist has told him that his heart will not last much longer. The beautiful black dress Anita is determined to wear reminds him of the fears he conceals. 

Setting: South Side of Chicago, late 60’s.
