Vintage Jazz Concert with a Staged Reading
Anita Hill is about to throw a dinner party for the social leaders of Hyde Park's African American community. She worries about whether her elegant black cocktail dress, newly decorated home, gourmet dinner and carefully selected wait staff will meet with the approval of her guests, the South Side's arbiters of good taste. Her husband Dave, however, is thinking about other things—his cardiologist has told him that his heart will not last much longer. The beautiful black dress Anita is determined to wear reminds him of the fears he conceals.
Setting: South Side of Chicago, late 60’s.

Seven days of music from the swing orchestra whose film "Count Basie" is still a hot topic.
The Count Basie Orchestra, the immortal swing ensemble that has entered a new decade towards its 100th anniversary in 2025, will once again be holding a 7-day residency performance. Since its founding in 1935, it has produced numerous legendary musicians such as Lester Young, Freddie Green, and Thad Jones, and has continued to be active even after the death of its founder, Basie. Their recent album, "Basie Rocks!", was nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album at the 68th Grammy Awards, and the film "Count Basie," which delves into Basie's little-known private life through valuable unearthed materials, has also been released, making them currently experiencing a new golden age. Experience the essence of this "bible of big band jazz" that captivates all generations live.

The group is heard regularly in the Chicago area at signature jazz clubs such as Jazz Showcase, and Andy’s Jazz, and at other venues as well as Chicago festivals. Trio Nexus' rhythm section is often heard performing within the legendary Chicago Jazz Orchestra and with other jazz greats around the country. Individually, Trio Nexus has performed and toured with artists such as Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, Lou Donaldson, Betty Carter, Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Slide Hampton, Ray Brown, and many more.
